Abstract:	Mẫu vật được phát hiện đầu tiên bởi A. Pételot vào năm 1923 tại núi Tam Đảo (Vĩnh Phúc). Năm 1924, E.D. Merrill công bố đầu tiên trong Tạp chí University of California Publications in Botany với tên khoa học Camellia petelotii Merr. Năm 1949, trong tạp chí Kew Bulletin, Sealy chuyển tên khoa học thành Camellia petelotii (Merr.) Sealy, đây là tên chính thức của loài. Đây là loài trà hoa vàng được xem là đẹp nhất, được chọn làm tem thư năm 2003.
