Abstract:	Mẫu vật được phát hiện đầu tiên bởi L. Pierre vào năm 1873 tại Biên Hòa (Đồng Nai). Năm 1886, J. L. Lanessan công bố đầu tiên trong sách Plantes utiles des Colonies Françaises với tên khoa học Thea dormayana Laness. Năm 1887, L. Pierre cũng mô tả loài này trong Flore Forestière de la Cochinchine với tên khoa học Thea dormoyana Pierre. Năm 1958, trong A revision of the genus Camellia, J. R. Sealy chuyển tên khoa học thành Camellia dormoyana (Pierre) Sealy. Đây là loài trà hoa vàng được phát hiện đầu tiên trên thế giới (năm 1873).
